For many people the internet has given them the opportunity to do what they want, when they want and chase their dreams. After the initial burst of people given the opportunity to work from home, for many the dream has soured and reality is not quite what they expected. Why is this happening?
Perhaps one of the worst aspects of the internet, and perversely one of the best, is the fact that it has given everyone that chance to dream of the super site, the one which breaks the bank. Having built up the hopes of so many, reality is now starting to kick in, which some becoming disheartened that the dream may have died. However, if this was a horse race then these are the fallers at the first fence, the ones who maybe lack that extra bit of confidence.
Making money on the internet is not rocket science, the trick is to keep making money and moving with the times. Fashions come and go on the internet and something which may have been selling like hot cakes yesterday maybe does not have a friend in the world today. The trick to making a long term income on the internet is the ability to adapt, the skill to know when a market is ending, when it is time to move on.
While there are many businesses like eBay, Betfair, etc who have hit the jackpot and still survive in their traditional form, there are millions of sites which were the hit of yesterday, only to disappear today. How many times have you heard of a site being sold and thought “Why are they selling that? Are they silly?”, only to find that a year down the line the market is saturated and that site they sold is dying a slow painful death.
The skill to survival on the internet is similar to Poker, you need to know when to hold, when to fold them and when to cash them in and walk away. It can be hard to leave a site which you have built up, but there is always tomorrow, another dream in the pipeline.
