While the cost of a .com domain name can be as little as just a few dollars for a year, you will no doubt have noticed that more and more domain registrars are offering a variety of discounts when acquiring domain names though themselves. But how can you really discount something which only costs a few dollars, and is there really any value?

On the face of it, to some it may seem as though the domain registrar companies are actually giving away their services for nothing, but this is not really the case. When buying one domain name it may see crazy to offer a discount on something which may only cost you $4, but what if you are buying 10, 20,30 or 100 domain names? Then you will start to see some value.

More and more people are forever hunting for the next big domain name which will rise to the top and go for millions of dollars. While highly unlikely that many of then will find that elusive domain name, you never know. To even stand a chance of making big bucks, many investors will buy dozens of similar domain names, with a whole variety of extensions. This is where a 10%, 20% or higher discount will make a really difference. But what about single purchases, why discount them?

You may well have noticed that a number of the major registrar websites either offer, or have close affiliations with, a number of hosting companies. By driving traffic to their sites with coupons codes and offers, they are also opening up the possibility that you will also subscribe to some form of hosting from them as well. So many of the registrar companies offer a vast array of additional services, many of which are the ones which actually make the profits for the companies.
